Global Need
The beauty of life is at the core of God’s story and His plan of redeeming His creation. Romans 8 says that all of creation is longing for the time it can fully display what God originally intended it to be.
Chief among God’s work is His creation of man and woman, who hold the highest place in God’s plan, because they are made in His image.
While all of creation displays God’s glory, humanity is the closest reflection of the creator.
That’s why Satan specifically targets humanity for destruction and ruin, and why abortion is one of his key approaches.
John 10:10 says the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Abortion is at the heart of Satan’s attempt to steal, kill, and destroy God’s ultimate creation.
But abortion doesn’t just steal the life of a baby, it destroys the lives of those involved in the decision. Without the redeeming work of God’s truth and the healing found in His love, post-abortive individuals carry a burden that wracks them with guilt, holds them captive, and fills them with bitterness.
Abortion is the Holocaust of the 21st century. It mandates that an unborn child is not human. It’s no coincidence the worldviews that have brought widespread death and destruction to the world – like communism, socialism, and fascism – all have the common thread of devaluing individual human life.
Even the epidemics of pornography and sex trafficking have at their core the idea that people are just objects to be used. Like these other historic evils, abortion is a war fought on the battleground between good and evil.
Take Up The Fight
According to Worldometers.info, Abortion was the leading cause of death worldwide in 2019. By other accounts, there are anywhere from 42 to 56 million abortions annually worldwide. Contrast this number to the 11 million who perished during the Holocaust of WWII, and the 20 million Africans captured for the slave trade. The need for speaking up, for reaching out, and most importantly, prayer, is now.
Are you ready to take up the fight? The need is great. If we are to turn the tide, we must change the hearts and minds of nations. The sanctity of life needs to be talked about and heard by every person. If we don’t take up the fight for these precious little ones, who will?
The Wounds Are Deep
Abortion not only takes the life of the innocent, but it can devastate the hearts of women and men, too. Abortion is consistently associated with higher rates of mental illness. The after effects include depression, shame, guilt, and even the possibility of suicide. Often women, and sometimes men, wish they could have made a more informed decision. Their understanding of the development of the baby was limited. Since having an abortion is something women do not usually discuss, we may never have a complete understanding of the psychological effects it has on them.
What You Can Do
We must first decide what we truly believe. Do you think abortion is the killing of innocent life? If so, the time for action is now. There are countless ways to support the sanctity of life in your area. The first and most crucial action is to pray. Consider volunteering in your local pregnancy center. If time is an issue, donate money or necessities such as diapers, formula, and baby clothes. Distribute flyers promoting a “Walk For Life” or annual fundraising dinner. You can reach out to your many government officials. Choose to vote your conscience in upcoming elections. Speak up. Study up. Stand up. If not you, then who?
